After blowing his first big acting job in New Orleans, Harvard-educated Erwin Vandeveer finds himself stranded in Buffalo Gap, Texas, where he is taken under the wing of irrepressible, almost-bankrupt, oil driller Merle Luskey, who sees Erwin as his "Savin' Angel."
